About the desk

Small desk. Strict standards.

Who picks the fares, how they earn a place on the page, and how this stays free.

Mistake Fares is a small fare desk run by four people who love a good fare and are tired of fake countdown timers. We spend our days checking flight prices so you do not have to, and a fare only goes up when it clears a simple bar: it is genuinely below what the route normally sells for, and we would book it ourselves.

How the desk works

Every route we cover has a normal price, what it actually sells for through the year, by month, not what an airline says in a press release. A fare only earns a post when it breaks that normal price by enough to matter. A €15 fare on a route that lives at €14 is not a deal. A €15 fare on a route that lives at €80 is a different story. Every post shows you the number, so you can judge it yourself.

Before anything goes up it gets checked. The price, the dates, and that it is actually bookable. Fares that do not survive checking do not make it here, no matter how good they looked the first time.

How we write

Plain words. No "unbelievable", no fake urgency, no pretending a discount is a scandal. If a fare is probably a mistake, we say so. If the airline may cancel it, we say that too. You should be able to read a post in thirty seconds and know exactly what you are buying into.

Corrections

Fares move by the minute, so a page can age badly. That is the nature of the subject, not an error in the writing. If something on a page is factually wrong, tell us on Telegram and we will fix it.

How we make money

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you book a flight through one of them, the airline or its partner pays us a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That is the whole business model. We do not sell tickets, we are not affiliated with any airline, and commissions never decide what gets posted. A fare makes the desk because it is good, or it does not make it at all.

Who we are

The desk is Elin Marsh, who runs editorial and reads everything twice. Ravi Iyer keeps the route histories and knows which airlines do what. Marta Silva handles replies and corrections. Tom Beckett books most of these fares personally, because somebody has to. That is the whole qualification. You cannot fake being annoyed about the one you missed.
